We present the investigation of functionalized hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronenes (HBC) by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) at the liquid-solid interface. For star-shaped HBC derivatives different mono- and double layer structures were observed depending on the solvent that can be incorporated [1]. For composites of electron rich HBC derivatives (donors) with electron acceptors different architectures were observed, some of which can be solved with atomic precision using as additional information the spectroscopic data obtained from STS [2]. The potential for prototypical single-molecule electronic devices is discussed.
