We use a Gutzwiller renormalized mean field theory to study properties of projected quasiparticles within the tJ model. We calculate the one-particle spectral function and discuss the relevance for tunneling and photoemmision spectroscopies in doped Mott insulators like the high TC superconductors. Besides we consider incoherent excitations and emphasise their importance in describing the striking asymmetry seen in the tunneling experiments.
