Measurements of the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron bound in hydrogen-like ions with spinless nuclei have proven to be highly sensitive tests of corresponding calculations based on bound-state quantum electrodynamics (BS-QED). An experiment on hydrogen-like calcium 40Ca19+ is being prepared [1], which is expected to yield a precision in the order of 10−9 for the electronic g-factor. This experiment makes use of an in-trap electron-beam ion source (EBIS) in which the charge breeding of the ions is performed by electron-impact ionization and with which it is possible to measure the energy dependent cross-sections of such process [2]. The charge breeding technique and first results will be presented.
