A transportable high density magneto-optical trap — •W. Salzmann, J. Eng, U. Poschinger, R. Wester, and M. Weidemüller — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Freiburg, Herrmann-Herder-Str.3, 79104 Freiburg

We present act and mobile magneto-optical trap as a target for atom, ion and photon beams. Total numbers of 107 atoms are trapped at densities of 1011  1/cm3 in a forced DarkSPOT and tempetatures of 100  µ K. Molecules produced in the trap are REMPI ionized and mass-analysed with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Alternatively, atoms ionized in collision can be momentum analyzed with a COLTRIMS detector.

At present the apparatus is employed in a collaboration project with the group of L. Wöste at the FU Berlin, investigating the photoassociation of ultracold molecules with shaped femtosecond pulses [1]. The status of the experiment will be reported
