Beta decay of stored highly charged ions — •Fritz Bosch — GSI Darmstadt, Planckstr.1
The ion storage-cooler ring ESR at GSI allows to address for the first time beta decays under conditions that prevail in hot stellar plasmas during the synthesis of the elements. I will focus on the achievements obtained in this field during the last years, emphasizing their astrophysical impact. In particular I will report on the first direct observation of bound-state beta decay, the investigation of ’cosmic clocks’ and, finally on the most recently started ’single ion decay spectroscopy’.
