Mass Gate for Reactive Cluster-Surface Studies — •Wolfgang Christen, Muhammer Bulat, Ulf Bergmann, and Klaus Rademann — Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Institut für Chemie, Brook-Taylor-Str. 2, 12489 Berlin
We present a detailed description (simulation, set-up, performance) of a pulsed mass gate for studies of reactive cluster-surface collisions under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The design is based on the ion deflection by a grid of fine parallel wires with alternate wires connected to opposite potentials of equal amplitude1. This set-up provides a significant improvement compared to our previous design of a pulsed ion mirror2.
