In the LISA spacecraft the position of the free-flying test mass with respect to the optical bench will be measured by use of an optical readout (cf. talk by Dennis Weise, EADS Astrium GmbH). Depending on the LISA optical bench design, this position sensor must have up to pm/√Hz sensitivity for translation measurement and up to nrad/√Hz sensitivity for tilt measurement. EADS Astrium – in collaboration with the Humboldt-university – is developing a polarizing heterodyne interferometer based on a highly symmetric design described in [1], combined with differential wavefront sensing for the tilt measurement. In this talk, first results of the translation and tilt measurements will be presented as well as its limitations and possible future improvements of the setup.
