Nanocomposite glass containing metal nanoparticles are of considerable interest for creation of photonic crystals(PCs) with special band gap (PGP) features. It has been known that linear and nonlinear optical properties of these material are driven by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and can be tuned in a wide range by variation of size, shape and concentration of the nanoparticles as well as by modification of the dielectric matrix. In this work we demonstrate techniques of microstructuring nanocomposite glass by application of DC electric fields and/or by exposure to intense femtosecond laser pulses. Using proposed techniques a serie of 1-D and 2-D photonic structures were created in glass. Experimental results on the spectral properties structured glass with silver nanoparticles are compared to theoretical calculations of the PGP properties of PCs.
