Correspondence of mean-field and many-particle dynamics for a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-/triple-well trap — •Dirk Witthaut, Eva-Maria Graefe, and Hans Jürgen Korsch — TU Kaiserslautern, FB Physik, D-67653 Kaiserslautern

We discuss the relation between the quantum many-particle and the mean-field dynamics for two- and three-level systems, modelling the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double- or triple-well trap. The mean-field dynamics of a driven two-state system and a three-state system is classically chaotic, which is reflected in the level statistics of the corresponding many-particle system. Furthermore we analyze the Landau-Zener problem in the mean-field approximation as well as for the many-particle dynamics. Approaches towards a generalized Landau-Zener formula are presented.
