Photophysical Characterisation of Pyrromethene 597 Laser Dye in Silicon-containing Organic Matrices — •Amit Tyagi1, David del Agua1, Thomas Susdorf1, Alfons Penzkofer1, Roberto Sastre2, Angel Costela3, and Inmaculada García-Moreno31Institut II - Experimentelle und Angewandte Physik, Universität Regensburg, Universitätsstrasse 31, 93053 Regensburg, Germany — 2Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros, CSIC, Juan de la Cierva 3, 28006 Madrid, Spain — 3Instituto de Química Física No-dqRocasolanoNo-dq, CSIC, Serrano 119, 28006 Madrid, Spain

Samples of the dipyrromethene-BF2 dye PM597 incorporated in copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and TMSPMA, and in terpolymers of MMA, HEMA and TMSPMA are characterized. The absorption cross-section and stimulated emission cross-section spectra are determined. The fluorescence quantum distributions and fluorescence lifetimes are measured. The photo-degradation of the dyes is studied under cw laser excitation conditions and quantum yields of photo-degradation are extracted. The solid state samples are compared with PM597 in liquid ethyl acetate solution. The fluorescence quantum yield of PM597 is increased in the doped samples (quantum yield around 70 %) compared to PM597 in ethyl acetate (quantum yield 47 %). The photo-stability increased considerably in the polymeric samples compared to the liquid solution.
