Particle detection with CsI calorimeters requiere eficient light collection. Here I present work being performed at CAU on the detection of the light output from a thallium-doped CsI crystal as it is foreseen for the High-Energy Telescope (HET) on ESA‘s Solar Orbiter mission and the Radiation Assessment Detector RAD on NASA‘s MSL mission. In order to reduce mass and power resources (which are very limited in space missions) light is read out with Si-PIN diodes. Using Co60, Cs137 and Bi207 sources, I found a efficient light readout when attaching the PIN diodes to the unpolished faces of the adhesive light coupler used. Preliminary results on the temperature dependence off the light output will also be presented.
