Radium has been identified as a potential candidate for experimental searches for violations of fundamental symmetries like parity (P), time reversal (T) and charge conjugation. In particular is shows a high sensitivity to T and P violating permanent electric dipole moments and also to atomic parity violation effects. This sensitivity arises from the unique atomic level scheme of radium. In the course of the setup of such experiments we need to improve the experimental data on radium.

Within the TRIμP (Trapped Radioactive Isotopes: μicro laboratories for fundamental Physics) facility at KVI, we are setting up an radioactive atomic beam of 225Ra and the laser system for performing the spectroscopy. This is guided closely by the requirements for experimental searches for symmetry violating effect.
