We examined the photodissociation of uracil after UV excitation by H-atom photofragment Doppler spectroscopy and slice imaging. The kinetic energy distribution shows a behaviour typical for statistical dissociation. No anisotropy is observed in the angular distribution of the images. Thus the photodissociation is purely statistical and there is no evidence for the contribution of repulsive πσ*-states as is the case in adenine.
