Based on a quantum statistical many-particle approach, the spectral line shapes are presented for helium and hydrogen in dense plasmas. The contribution of the ions is taken into account in a quasi-static approximation. The electronic contribution to the shift and width is considered, using the method of thermodynamic Green's function. Dynamical screening of the electron-atom interaction is included. Compared to the width, the electronic shift is more affected by dynamical screening. This effect increases at high density. Our results are compared with a large number of available theoretical and experimental data. Furthermore, self-absorption is considered in order to reproduced synthetic profiles.
