Current patterns in a plane discharge system with the high-ohmic cathode — •Shalva Amiranashvili, Svetlana Gurevich, and Hans-Georg Purwins — Institut für Angewandte Physik, Münster, Germany

We systematically consider current-voltage characteristic of the plane-parallel discharge cell in the Townsend mode of operation. Both effect of space charge and metastables are taken into account. The results are used to derive a reduced system of equations that governs the system and allows for explanation of the experimentally observed current patterns.
