Beams of radioactive nuclides can be produced in a variety of ways. Effcient production of short-lived radioactive isotopes in inverse reaction kinematics is an important technique for a number of applications. It is particularly interesting when the isotope is only a few nucleons away from stable isotopes. The production via charge exchange and stripping reactions has been explored at the TRI$\mu$P magnetic double separator at the Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut in Groningen. The balance between separator transmission effciency and production yield and the corresponding choice for the beam energy has been investigated. The results of some exploratory experiments at the new TRI$\mu$P facility will be presented.
