Observation of γ-rays from Active Galactic Nuclei in the GeV/TeV energy range with the MAGIC telescope — •Robert Wagner for the MAGIC collaboration — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Föhringer Ring 6, 80805 München

Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are assumed to host super-massive black holes that accrete matter. The production of γ-rays in the very-high energy range takes place in collimated matter outflows, in so-called jets. With the 17m diameter MAGIC telescope, currently the largest single-dish ground-based imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope world-wide, γ-ray emission in the GeV/TeV energy range from several AGN has been detected. The spectral and temporal properties of the VHE γ-ray emission from the observed sources will be reported and their implications will be discussed.
