Search for Second Generation Leptoquarks in the Decay Channel LQ2 LQ2 → µ q ν q in Proton-Antiproton Collisions — •Philippe Calfayan and Thomas Nunnemann — Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Am Coulombwall 1, D-85748 Garching
As predicted by numerous extensions of the Standard Model, leptoquarks are hypothetical bosons allowing lepton-quark transitions. In hadron collisions, the pair production of scalar leptoquarks is a pure QCD process. Thus its cross section only depends on the leptoquark mass and not on the unknown coupling between the leptoquark and its associated lepton and quark.
This presentation describes a search for pair produced second generation leptoquarks, where one leptoquark is assumed to decay into a muon and a quark, and the other one into a neutrino and a quark. The dominating Standard Model background to this process is the production of W bosons in association with jets.
The analysis is based on 1 fb−1 of data collected by the DØ experiment at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider.
