Observations of Pulsars and Plerions with the MAGIC Imaging Air Shower Cherenkov Telescope — •Nepomuk Otte for the MAGIC collaboration — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, München
Rotation powered pulsars are a powerful source of energy. Through interaction with the surrounding medium a pulsar is forming a so-called pulsar wind nebula (PWN) complex. γ-rays were detected with EGRET from the inner magnetosphere of seven pulsars, of which one (PSR B1951+32) shows pulsed emission up to a few tens of GeV without indication of a cutoff in its energy spectrum. Furthermore acceleration of charged particles takes place in the PWN. Inverse Compton scattering of these ultra-relativistic particles on various soft photon fields can give rise to γ-ray emission up to TeV energies. The Crab pulsar and its nebula is one example of such a system.
Here we report on the observation of selected pulsars and plerions with the MAGIC telescope between 60 GeV and several TeV.
