Determination of atmospheric parameters relevant for IACTs — •Jürgen Hose, Martin Fuchs, and Razmik Mirzoyan — MPI for physics, Munich, Germany

Observation of Cherenkov-radiation from particle showers induced by high energy (GeV-TeV) cosmic rays in the high atmospheric layers is influenced by several physical parameters of the atmosphere. This is important for ground-based VHE gamma ray telescopes. The knowledge and monitoring of these parameters is of great importance for the interpretation of the measured data. We are using a micro-LIDAR operating at 532 nm for monitoring the sky transparency. Some relevant data will be shown. Also, we are using a so called pyrometer for measuring the thermal radiation back-reflected by clouds. This helps to detect clouds in the aperture of the telescope.
