The process of W-pair production close to threshold at an electron-positron collider is crucial for a precise determination of the W mass. Accurate theoretical predictions for this process require a systematic treatment of ΓW/MW∼ αEW effects. We present an effective-theory approach based on a consistent expansion in the coupling constants, ΓW/MW and the non-relativistic velocity v of the W. As our main result we give a prediction for the process e+ eu d µ νµ near the W-pair production threshold to next-to-leading order in ΓW/MW∼ αEWv2.
