Two-Field Gauge Inflation — •Thorsten Zöller — University of Heidelberg, Institute for theoretical physics

The basic ideas of a class of inflation models, generically called ``gauge inflation'', will be described by means of rather simple realizations of the idea of gauge inflation. Gauge inflation is based on a five-dimensional gauge theory whose gauge field, upon compactification of the extra dimension, is essentially being identified with the inflation (thereby resembling models of gauge-Higgs unification). Of particular interest is a supergravity realization of gauge inflation containing two inflaton fields. Results of a numerical simulation of this model will be shown which confirm that gauge inflation generically predicts good values for the spectral index (corresponding the the spectrum of the curvature perturbation) of about 0.96 (being in compliance with WMAP data).
