Application of the Dark Matter Direct Detection with an Annual Modulated Event Rate — •Chung-Lin Shan and Manuel Drees — Physikalisches Institut der Uni Bonn, Nussallee 12, D-53115, Bonn

Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) are one of the leading candidates for dark matter. Currently, the most promising method to detect many different WIMP candidates is the direct detection of the recoil energy deposited in a low-background laboratory detector due to the WIMP-nucleus elastic scattering. In our earlier work we considered a time-averaged recoil spectrum, assuming that no directional information exists, and developed a method in which we can use the measured recoil energy directly to construct the time-averaged one-dimensional velocity distribution function of WIMPs and their mean velocity and velocity dispersion. Now we considered a time-dependent recoil spectrum with an 1-year period. We extended our method for this more practical condition. Moreover, we can also construct the modulation amplitude of the WIMP velocity distribution function from the experimental data directly.
