Misalignment Studies in the Scope of b-Tagging at the ATLAS Experiment — •Valentin Sipica, Peter Buchholz, Kai Grybel, and Wolfgang Walkowiak — Universität Siegen, Fachbereich Physik

ATLAS will be one of the four experiments located at the LHC accelerator at CERN. The Inner Detector of ATLAS provides precision measurements of particle hits. These are used in the reconstruction and primary vertices, which are important ingredients in b-tagging. However, the initial misalignment of the detector will also affect the performance of the b-tagging algorithm.

Several misalignment sets have been produced in order to represent the level of residual misalignment as expected after installing the detector. These scenarios have been investigated in order to determine the influence of the misalignment on the track reconstruction performances with various algorithms. A loss of performance is observed with a misaligned detector, but it can be partially recovered by the introduction of error scaling factors into the track reconstruction. The tuning of these factors is necessary in order to reach the optimum reconstruction performance. An estimate on the overall performance of the b-tagging algorithm is then computed for different misalignment scenarios.
