Limit on the radiative 0 neutrino-ECEC decay of 36Ar — •Oleg Chkvorets1, Marik Barnabé Heider1, Konstantin Gusev2,3, and Stefan Schoenert1 for the GERDA collaboration — 1Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg, Germany — 2Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia — 3Institute for Nuclear Research, Moscow, Russia
First limits on the neutrinoless double electron capture process of 36Ar have been derived from measurements with a 1.6 kg bare high-purity germanium detector submerged in 70 liters of liquid argon. The obtained limit for the radiative decay with the emission of a single photon is T1/2(0+ giving g.s. with single gamma) >= 1.9x10^18 years (68% C.L.). It is comparable to recent results obtained in dedicated experiments investigating different isotopes. The measurements were performed during detector tests in the framework of the Gerda experiment.
