A fast shower simulation model and its performance for jets in ATLAS experiment. — •Pavel Weber — Kirchhoff-Institut für Physik der Universität Heidelberg
The data analyses of HEP experiments require realistic simulations of the physics processes under study and of the detector response. However, a full detector simulation based on GEANT is very CPU time consuming, so that for practical purposes fast simulations are used.
A model of electromagnetic and hadronic shower parameterization recently implemented in the ATLAS fast simulation framework ATLFAST, describes the longitudinal and lateral shower profile. It also provides a more detailed description of the calorimeter geometry, including electromagnetic and hadronic layers, as well as crack regions. The new approach significantly improves the fast simulation of the ATLAS calorimeter.
Recent studies on the fast shower parameterization performance and comparison to detailed GEANT simulation based on inclusive jet production are summarized.
