Tau - Electron Separation for the ATLAS Experiment — •Asen Christov, Sascha Caron, and Gregor Herten — Physikalisches Intitut, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg
Final states containing tau leptons play an important role for the physics studies at LHC. These final states are promising for both, the search for the Higgs boson and Supersymmetry.
In this talk we present the principles and the performance of a new tau - electron separation algorithm. This algorithm is based on the one-dimensional likelihood discriminator method. For this likelihood discriminant, we use probability density functions for each discriminating variable obtained using nonparametric kernel density estimation.
