Improving the Identification of low-pT taus in dense environments in ATLAS — •Robindra Prabhu1, Klaus Desch1, Sebastian Fleischmann1, Peter Wienemann1, and Carolin Zendler1,2 — 1Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn — 2Physikalisches Institut, Universität Freiburg
Tau jets from hadronically decaying tau leptons are important signatures in several processes at the LHC, including Supersymmetry (SUSY).
Tau jets originating from SUSY decays are often softer (pT< 30 GeV) than taus originating from other hard processes making them challenging to identify and reconstruct. This challenge is further exacerbated by the high track density environments accompanying SUSY events.
We explore how the existing tau reconstruction tools in ATLAS can be modified to optimize the identification and reconstruction of soft-pT taus in ATLAS.
