Studies for muon track reconstruction in IceCube — •Olaf Schulz for the IceCube collaboration — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
Various muon track reconstruction algorithms have been used in the AMANDA neutrino telescope and recently applied in IceCube. We review first the principles of the reconstruction methods. Moreover, we investigate the influence of the different spacing of the optical modules between AMANDA and IceCube on the track reconstruction. In particular, the non-homogeneous spacing of the AMANDA-IceCube combined detector represents a new challenge for the reconstruction of the muon tracks. First results will be presented and the outlook of future improvements in track reconstruction will be given.
