Rocket-borne turbulence measurements in the middle atmosphere at high northern latitudes — •Boris Strelnikov, Markus Rapp, Erich Becker, and Franz-Josef Lübken — Leibniz- Institut für Atmosphärenphysik, Schlossstrasse 6, 18225 Kühlungsborn, Germany
We present results of in-situ measurements of turbulence parameters in the polar middle atmosphere (70-110 km height) conducted using rocket-borne instruments. We investigate properties of the middle atmosphere turbulence and demonstrate that neutral air turbulence created by wave breaking in that region plays crucial role in the dynamics of the Earth's atmosphere.
