Raman scattering in the spin-crossover [Fe(pmd)(H2O){Au(CN)2}2] · H2O reveals a complex three-step spin-state transitions in contrast to observations in magnetization measurements. The switching between different spin states is recorded as function of temperature and irradiation with electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectral range.
