We present a new layout for a high-Tc dc-SQUID gradiometer for spatially resolved measurements. The gradiometers were made on SrTiO3 bicrystal substrates using pulsed laser deposition. The 150 nm YBa2Cu3O7−x films were structured using Argon ion beam etching.
An overview of the characteristic parameters of these HTSC-SQUIDs is given. We measured Ic, IcRn-product, transfer function depending on temperature and noise properties in environments shielded and unshielded from magnetic fields. Comparisons with numerical simulations of the electrical properties and magnetooptical images showing current densities in different fields are given.
Several applications are discussed with respect to the balance and effective area of the gradiometer structures.
