The copper oxide-based compounds are known for interesting properties like superconductivity, spin and charge ordering. Single crystals of cuprates with Nd/Y and different Ca-doping were grown by a Floating Zone method under air and elevated oxygen pressure.
Because single crystalline samples of Y2−xCa2+xCu5O10 have not been available for a long time the structure has not been solved until recently [1,2]. The compound is also interesting because of its change from antiferromagnetic ordering through spin glass to a spin gap state at higher Ca-doping (1.4 ≤ x ≤ 1.67) [3].
Further investigations by neutron diffraction and magnetic measurements on doped samples of Y2−xCa2+xCu5O10 and Nd2−xCa2+xCu5O10 are under way.
