Preparation of Sr1−xCaxRuO3 thin films — •Melanie Schneider, Vasile Mosneaga, and Philipp Gegenwart — I. Physik. Institut, Georg-August Universitaet Goettingen, Friedrich-Hund Platz 1, 37077 Goettingen
The series Sr1−xCaxRuO3 displays a
continuous evolution from itinerant electron magnetism with
Tc=160 K (x=0) towards a paramagnetic metallic state at x=1.
Previous studies on polycrystalline bulk samples raise the question
whether the series shows a quantum critical point [1] or phase separation near x=0.7 [2].
Here, we report first results on thin films which
have been grown epitaxially on SrTiO3 substrates by the
metalorganic aerosol deposition technique. This technique is based
on the use of a solution containing acetylacetonates of Sr2+,
Ca2+ and Ru3+. Growth conditions have been optimized by
the variation of the (Sr1−xCax) to Ru ratio, deposition rate, molarity of the solution and
deposition temperature. X-ray diffraction as well as STM, electrical
resistivity and magnetization measurements are reported.
