Electronic transitions in a Mott-Hubbard insulator under external perturbations — •Luis Craco and Helge Rosner — Max-Planck-Institut fuer Chemische Physik fester Stoffe, 01187 Dresden, Germany
The general problem of perturbation induced electronic transitions is addressed using extensions of the LDA+DMFT scheme. It is shown how the Mott-Hubbard insulating state of YTiO3 is affected by external pressure [1] and magnetic-field [2]. The correlated spectra fond at ambient conditions is shown to be in good agreement with experiments (PES and optics) [3]. Under pressure [1] we found a continuous reduction of the Mott-Hubbard gap at small pressures which is consistent with indications from recent mid-infrared optical absorption studies. We also consider the problem of magnetic-field induced orbital switching and reverse orbital polarization and its possible implications to experiments for YTiO3 [2] and correlated materials of great interest.
