The heavy quark potential from QCD and quarkonia — •Alexander Laschka, Norbert Kaiser, and Wolfram Weise — Physik Department, Technische Universität München, 85748 Garching, Germany
The form of the quark-antiquark potential has originally been determined phenomenologically in order to reproduce observed quarkonium spectra. Methods of effective field theories in the framework of non-relativistic QCD offer a systematic (i.e. perturbative) approach to the heavy quark potential. Alternatively this potential can be calculated using lattice QCD simulations. We analyze to which extent the different approaches agree and how the slope of the potential influences charmonium and bottomonium spectra. A crucial point for the perturbative analysis is the proper choice of the renormalization scale.
