Spectral Function for Dense Plasmas beyond GW — •Carsten Fortmann, Gerd Röpke, and August Wierling — Institut für Physik, Universität Rostock, 18051 Rostock
The single particle spectral function is the key quantity to describe properties of many-particle systems. A common approach to the spectral function is the GW approximation, which is successfully applied in condensed matter theory, theory of classical plasmas, and also nuclear physics. In this work, the spectral function for strongly coupled hydrogen plasmas is calculated at arbitrary degeneracy. As an application, the Gaunt factor for inverse bremsstrahlung is calculated from the spectral function and compared to results obtained for weakly coupled plasmas (Born approximation). We also present consistent improvements of the GW-scheme in order to include vertex-corrections as dictated by sum-rules (Ward-Identities).
