Computation of ion drag force on a static spherical dust grain in an RF plasma — •Venkata Ramana Ikkurthi1, Konstantyn Matyash2, Ralf Schneider2, and Andre Melzer11Institut für Physik, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald, 17487 Greifswald, Germany — 2Max-Planck Institut für Plasmaphysik, EURATOM Association, 17491 Greifswald, Germany

The ion drag force on a spherical dust grain located in an RF discharge plasma is computed using a 3-dimensional Particle-Particle Particle-Mesh (P3M) code. The ion drag force is computed for the case where the Debye length is very large compared to the radius of the dust grain.

In the present work, the P3M code has been used to compute ion drag force on a spherical dust. The ion drag force results from two contributions: collisional drag force and orbital drag force. These contributions have been computed from the momentum imparted to dust grain by ions in direct collision and orbital coulomb collisions. Unlike others work, the current work doesn't assume any velocity distributions for plasma species. The results have been compared with previous simulation and experimental results.
