Particle-in-Cell simulations of a Double-Plasma Device — •Farah Aziz, Sebastian Enge, and Ulrich Stroth — Institut für Plasmaforschung, Universität Stuttgart, 70569 Stuttgart

Particle-in-Cell simulations are widely used as a computational technique to understand and predict plasma behaviour. In this simulation technique, the motion of a large number of charged particles in their self-consistent electric and magnetic fields is followed. PIC simulations of a Double-Plasma device are carried out, with the objective to study sheaths, plasma waves and soliton dynamics under the influence of a negative ion admixture to an Argon plasma. It is planned to compare calculated ion-velocity-distributions with LIF measurements. A Double-Plasma Device consists of two separate plasmas i.e. source and target plasma, in a common vacuum chamber, but separated from each other by a negatively biased grid. The target plasma is well suited for detailed study of the above phenomena. First PIC simulations of the plasma sheath based on the actual measurements of the parameters will be presented.
