Correlated Tunneling of Few Bosons in a 1-D Double Well — •Sascha Zöllner1, Hans-Dieter Meyer1, and Peter Schmelcher1,2 — 1Universitaet Heidelberg, Theoretische Chemie, Im Neuenheimer Feld 229, 69120 Heidelberg — 2Universitaet Heidelberg, Physikalisches Institut, Philosophenweg 12, 69120 Heidelberg
This talk is about few-boson tunneling in a one-dimensional double-well trap, covering the full crossover from weak interactions to the fermionization limit of strong correlations. After reviewing the underlying mechanism of ground-state fermionization of trapped bosons, it will be shown how the tunneling of two atoms evolves from Rabi oscillations to correlated pair tunneling as we increase the interaction strength. The physics behind it will be analyzed, rounded off by an outlook on how many-body effects modify the picture and how the tunneling can be controlled via tilting the wells.
