Forward-Backward Asymmetry in Z → e+e− events with the ATLAS detector. — •Mohamed Aharrouche — Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Institut für Physik Mainz
The start-up of the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is planned for the year 2008. The physics program of the experiment covers a broad range of topics, going from tests of the Standard Model (Higgs boson discovery) to new theories beyond the SM (Supersymmetry, extra dimensions ... etc). In this contribution, the measurement of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry in Z → e+e− events will be presented. Such a measurement can be used to determine the effective weak mixing angle, sin2θefflept. We will demonstrate that a high accuracy on the weak mixing angle can be reached. This is possible due to the large cross section of the Z production and the use of electron reconstruction in the forward calorimeters of ATLAS.
