Studies of Rare Dimuon B Decays at the ATLAS Experiment — •Valentin Sipica, Peter Buchholz, and Wolfgang Walkowiak — Universität Siegen, Fachbereich Physik

B_d,s⁰ → µ⁺µ⁻ decays are allowed in the Standard Model only through one loop penguin or box diagrams, which are very sensitive to Standard Model extensions and, therefore, they are an excellent probe of New Physics effects. The LHC will be a abundant source of B mesons, allowing for the first time the measurement of branching ratios for such decays in similar order as the Standard Model predictions (BR ∼ 10⁻¹⁰ for B_d and ∼ 10⁻⁹ for B_s).

The prospects of the search for rare B decays at ATLAS are presented, as well as the experimental strategies involved.
