Search for the Higgs boson in the WW decay channel with the CMS experimentThomas Punz and •Joanna Weng — ETH Zurich

The start of the CERN LHC pp collider is foreseen for 2008. A prospective analysis for the search of the Standard Model Higgs boson with the CMS experiment is presented. The analysis strategy for inclusive production of the Higgs boson decaying in WW pairs is discussed in the context of the startup luminosity of 1032cm−2s−1 at the LHC. The decay is expected to be the main discovery channel in the mass interval between 2mW and 2mZ, where the Higgs decay branching fraction in real WW pairs is most favorable. Signal and background data sets obtained with a detailed Monte Carlo simulation of the detector response are treated using a complete reconstruction chain. The data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 1 fb−1 is analyzed. The talk have been divided into two parts. This is part two, the first one will be presented by Thomas Punz.
