Study of Z Boson Decay to two tau leptons with the ATLAS Experiment — •Asen Christov, Sascha Caron, and Gregor Herten — Physikalisches Intitut, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg

Final states containing tau leptons play an important role for the physics studies at LHC. These final states are promising for both, the search for the Higgs boson and Supersymmetry.
The first step towards being able to perform such advanced studies with tau leptons is understanding the ATLAS detector response and off-line algorithms performance for the taus. A convenient way to do so is to investigate the behavior of a well defined sample of tau leptons. The Z boson decay to two taus provides a sample of low momenta taus, which can be used for this purpose.
In this talk we will present estimation and suppression strategies for the main backgrounds, which can be applied in order to obtain a clean sample of tau leptons.
