Simulations of the Beam Condition Monitor at LHCb — •Magnus Lieng, Christoph Ilgner, Mirco Nedos, Sebastian Schleich, and Bernhard Spaan — TU Dortmund

The LHCb Beam Condition Monitor is an assembly of chemical vapour deposition diamond sensors located in the LHCb experiment at CERN. This device has been designed to monitor beam and machine background, and to interact with the beam interlock and other safety systems in case of adverse conditions.

Simulations have been performed in order to ascertain the expected signal signatures at normal running conditions and during several plausible failure scenarios. From these results one is able to set thresholds for various types of intervention, as well as attaining information about the correlations between this device and the sub-detectors in which it has been designed to protect.
