MAGIC observations of Active Galactic Nuclei — •Daniela Dorner1 and Robert Wagner2 for the MAGIC collaboration — 1Universität Würzburg, Würzburg, Deutschland — 2MPI für Physik, München, Deutschland

The Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cerenkov (MAGIC) telescope is currently the largest instrument in operation for the study of E>75 GeV cosmic gamma-rays. A substantial part of its annual observation time is dedicated to the investigation of extragalactic gamma-ray sources, in particular of active galactic nuclei (AGN). The gamma-rays are assumed to originate from particle acceleration processes in the AGN jets. Apart from investigating these production processes, the AGN gamma-ray emission can also be used as a test beam for the study of the so-called extragalactic background light and possible light propagation effects. We give an overview of recent scientific results obtained from AGN observations with MAGIC.
