Strangeness production with WASA-at-COSY* — •Anna Kowalczyk — Institute of Physics, Jagiellonian University, PL-30059 Cracow, Poland — Institute für Kernphysik and Jülich Center for Hadron Physics, D-52425 Jülich, Germany
The hyperon spectrum is still not understood in detail. In particular the Λ (1405) state has received increased attention recently, since its nature is debated heavily and controversely. Various theoretical investigations predict for this possibly dynamically generated state even a two-pole structure. This calls for detailed investigations of the production cross sections and the decay channels as a function of the excitation energy.
To this aim we have started a feasibility study for measurements of the production and the decay of hyperon states with WASA at COSY. The project starts with the investigation of ground state Σ production in the reaction channel p p → p Σ+(1189) K0, with the mostly neutral final state involving 3 pions: pp → p Σ+ K0 → p (pπ0) (π0π0).
The current status of the analysis of data collected in 2008 will be presented.
