We present low-temperature noncontact-AFM investigations in combination with Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM) and Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) to study the magnetic properties of BiCrO3 thin films on the nm length scale. In addition, we investigated the ferroelectric properties of BiCrO3 thin films by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM) and compared them to macroscopic hysteresis measurements. The samples have been prepared as described in [1].
The ferroelectric characteristics were measured both above and below the magnetic and
ferroelectric phase transition temperatures of BiCrO3. We compare the local PFM measurements with the global properties of the BiCrO3 films obtained from polarization versus applied electric field curves both at room and low temperature.
