The vacuum magnetic surfaces of the TJ-K torsatron, have been studied over a wide range of rotational transforms, by using a fluorescent rod which scans the poloidal cross section and lights up when struck by electrons emitted by an electron gun. The existences of closed and nested flux surfaces as well as the magnetic axis positions for various magnetic configurations have been proven experimentally. Moreover, magnetic islands have been found. A study of the fluctuation amplitudes and turbulent particle transport have been carried out in the microwave-heated discharge by means of movable Langmuir probes. In the vicinity of the magnetic islands, turbulent particle transport shown to be increased. At the same time flattening of the density profiles have been observed.
