Investigation on T-waves in the low pressure dc positive column in oxygen — •Dirk Pasedag, Marc Bogaczyk, Holger Testrich, and Hans-Erich Wagner — Institut für Physik, E.-M.-Arndt-Universität Greifswald

Plasmas of electronegative molecular gases are known to be susceptible to the development of instabilities which lead to the excitation of standing and moving striations. In the positive column of the dc O2-glow discharge two regimes exist, one with a low axial electric field strength of about 5 V/cm, the so called T-mode, and the H-mode with more than 10 V/cm. The investigations are focused on the anode directed waves in the T-mode and the dynamic behavior of the H- and T-mode. The determination of phase velocity and wavelength was done by probe head measurements on a plasma tube with variable electrode distances from 40 cm to 120 cm, pressures from 0.5 Torr to 1 Torr and discharge currents up to 60 mA. Also different cathode configurations were used.

Supported by SFB-TR 24, project B1.
